Lari-Mar – the name

It received its name from a man who discovered it in 1974, naming it after his daughter, Larissa, and adding “mar”, Spanish for "the sea". 

Mystic qualities

All of Larimar's metaphysical qualities are not yet fully discovered, but various colors are said to have their own particular energy.  Blue tones can calm the spirit, to help healing best are green shades, while reddish shades strengthen the will. Larimar can bring truth to the communication as it balances with the Throat Chakra.

How to buy a good larimar stone – grading the stone

There are several factors to keep in mind when grading Larimar :
- Color – the deeper blues or greens are best.
- Patterns – distinctive patterns reflecting natures oceans and skies. The Patterns dictate clouds-capes or the white caps of the Caribbean seas.
- Luster - intensely high gloss or silk finish, the dense in structure stone doesn't allow light to pass thru.
- Clarity - free of pits and cracks

Storing and care

Store larimar carefully, preferably in a separate jewelry box, a soft bag or in a soft cloth. Larimar is a very hard and durable stone however certain chemicals can damage your stone. Avoid exposing your larimar to strong detergents, household cleaner, chlorine pool water, hair spray and perfume. It's recommended to wipe the stone with a soft jewelry cloth after wearing to keep the surface luster from natural body oils. Try to avoid prolonged exposure to bright sunshine to keep the natural color of the your stone.

To clean larimar use a soft brush and water with mild soap. Rinse well in cold water and dry thoroughly with a soft cloth. Any cleaning suitable for pearls is gentle enough for larimar.
